Viva Kerala is set to debut on its home-ground on the 23rd of this month. Kolkata's Chirag United, which heavily invested and recruited some of India's finest players will be the first opponent.
The team is now staying in a hotel in Calicut and will soon move to its own facilities in the city. In order to train and stabilize some automatisms, the team is currently playing exhibiton matches against local teams. On Monday, Viva will face Universal Soccer School for the second time and Farook College will be the opponent the day after.
Coach Sreedharan has also revealed that he will begin with an attacking 4-4-2 formation contrary to the first two away matches. "We have to win matches now. We want the three points, no matter who is the other team on the ground here.", explains the seasoned coach. But he knows of the advantage that numerous supporters can provide: "By our style of play, we have to attract the local public. The stadium should be filled and cheer our young and inexperienced team. This morale booster can work wonders, especially for the young players!". The coach however is also aware of the fact that he can only bank on home support if "we play attractive football".
Nowadays, the team's major problems do not stem from the defensive department rather than the forward line. The Ghanaian striker Reuben Senyo found it difficult in previous matches to prevail. This may be because of him being the only nominal striker. He was expected to be supported by Thai Wisoot Bunpeng whose arrival has been further postponed due to visa problems. Until now, Viva Kerala occupies the bottom of the table with zero goals scored and zero points. Opening the account against a formidable Chirag United will be a difficult task...but not an impossible one.
