Viva Kerala's chief coach A.M. Sreedharan exclusively reveals to us what he thinks about the last match against Salgaocar and what his team has to do in order to qualify for the final stage

 

vivakerala.net: How do you rate the performance against Salgaocar in the last match?

Sreedharan: First of all, we are very happy that we secured a draw against Salgaocar. On-paper, they are the strongest team here. Of course, we were very unlucky to concede a goal in the last stage of the match, but me and my players are very satisfied with the result. In the first half itself, we could have scored some goals, but Baba Tunde was not in great form as he was playing with an injury. After we scored the goal in the 2nd half, Salgaocar was pressing, but we could contain them until the 83rd minute.

 

vk.net: Would you single out any player's performance?

S: It was a team effort throughout, otherwise we could not have played that well. Shahinlal was excellent in goal and Saleel had a marvellous game, too. But so had all other players that were on the field.

 

vk.net: Did the crowd support play a part?

S: Yes, definitely! We really appreciate all the fans supporting us. The big crowds at the stadium help us to build confidence. I said many times that these players are young and very talented. They just need confidence.

 

vk.net: Have the players matured during the last weeks?

S: After the last game, my boys got a morale-boost and we developed a certain fighting spirit. But we also have to cater to the players and show them our appreciation by giving them incentives and assuring them of their future. Directors, offcials but also fans can play a big part here. Only then, the players will always be motivated to give their best.

 

vk.net: The next match against Malabar United will decide Viva's fate this season. How do you rate our chances?

S: The good thing is that we have everything in our hands. If we play the same way we did against Salgaocar, then we can definitely win. But we cannot be overconfident or underestimate Malabar United
