Viva Kerala will play strong Goan outfit Salgaocar Sports Club in its first match of this year's Durand Cup on October 31st.
Due to a busy schedule, the format of India's oldest tournament has been changed to a knock-out affair. The first round will see Viva playing the other team which was promoted to the Pro League, Salgaocar SC. Interestingly, the Goan team now has both the strikers in its ranks which ensured Viva's promotion last season: Badmus Babatunde and Anil Kumar. However, these two are not first choice at Salgaocar.
Viva Kerala's team list for the Durand Cup will be published shortly. But new Ghanaian recruit George Tutu will not be available as he is slated to arrive only later this month. Countryman Amankwah Mireku will take his place in defence. Apart from this, Jo Paul Ancheri is taking rest due to some muscular problem. He might also not feature for Viva Kerala in Delhi.
