Viva defeats KSEB; moves to semifinal Print E-mail
Sunday, 04 January 2009
Viva Kerala defeated Kerala State Electricity Board, Trivandrum by 2-0 and thereby qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing Kerala State Club Championship. The goals were scored by Siraj and C.S. Sabeeth.
KSEB played in full strength (except for that fact that goalie Nelson was unavailable), but even then Viva Kerala had the upperhand and scored two goals against the strong contenders.

According to coach Sreedharan, the team played a fast game and combined very well. Goalkeeper Shahinlal also played exceptionally well as he denied an almost sure goal to keep a clean sheet.
The foreigen players also performed well: While Mohammad Conte was hardworking in midfield, his countryman Mansa stood tall in Viva's defence and impressed with his good skills and excellent movement.

"The only problem today was, that we did not convert the many chances that we had. Both our strikers put in a lot of effort, but they are  still maturing.", explained A.M. Sreedharan. "We need an effective striker". Good news is that Kerala forward A. Devadasan, who signed for Viva in May only to later join Indian Navy, has teamed up with the boys at the camp in Udygomandal. He is likely to stay with Viva until he gets a call to join forces.

Viva Kerala will play SBT in the final of the Bhagath Soccer Cup on January 7th at FACT Ground, Udyogamandal (Eloor).

Viva: Shahinlal - Lalu, Mansa, Noushad, Sathish - Sakeer (Saleel), Firoz, Conte, Siraj (Shihab) - Sabeeth, Shibin.
