Viva Kerala expectedly beat last year's university champions, Christ College (Iranjalakuda), by 5-2. Despite having undergone a strenous weight training session in the morning, the team totally dominated the proceedings.
The match started at 4.15 pm and Viva's new addition upfront, Ebin Rose, scored two times to create a 2-0 lead for Viva. However, Viva conceeded an unneccessary goal following a minus pass to goalie Purushothaman. During halftime, coach A.M. Sreedharan brought on Shiju for Purushothaman and Santosh for Shameem (a trialist from Punjab). Jo Paul Ancheri and Satish Kumar were replaced by Sajeesh and Santa Singh respectively. The second half saw a hattrick by Ghanaian striker Wisdom Abbey which took Viva's goal tally to 5. According to team manager Prasanth, the players did not play "all out" and thus reached only 60% of their potential. Today, Viva is scheduled to play Garrinchas of Ernakulam.
