VIVA Kerala played entertaining football to beat the Nigerian guest Dinamo FC 4-1 in its first encounter of the E.K. Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup.
The goals for the Kochi side were scored by Baba Tunde (14, 52) and his fellow striker Anil Kumar (88). Another goal was added seconds before the final whistle when Dinamo's captain Olufemi scored an own goal. Throughout the match, VIVA dominated the proceedings and 14 minutes
into the first half, Nigerian Baba Tunde scored the first goal off a
throw-in by Shine Raj. In the second half, it was again Shine who helped Baba, this time with a measured free kick, to increase the lead (52nd). The spectators could witness a fine understanding between Anil Kumar and Baba who gave the young Nigerian guests a torrid time. Their goal was constantly under attack and with two minutes to go Anil finally scored a goal off a T.K. Sreenath-pass. There still was some action in the injury time: While the Nigerians pulled one back through a penalty converted by Felix Ibrebru, it was Dinamo FC's captain Olufemi who scored another goal for VIVA Kerala when he put the ball into his own net. Coach Sreedharan promised a fine display on the day of Vishu and his team showed just that. VIVA: Noufal - Dhanarajan, Omobolaj, Sajeesh, Philip - Shine Raj, Devadas, Girish, Muneer - Anil Kumar, Baba Tunde.
