Considerably later than its other counterparts from all over India, VIva Kerala today started its coaching camp for the coming season 2008/2009. The team management and directors agreed that this time, the camp should start on August 17th, which is the first day of the Malayalee month Chingam.
Nevertheless, chief coach A.M. Sreedharan was a happy man when he greeted all his boys at the practice ground in Udyogamandal. According to the coach, the young players were eager to start the camp and very energetic and interested on the field. "The boys are skilled and sincere. It is an optimal basis for success. I am convinced, we will do well this season", said Sreedharan.
The Viva Kerala directors were also present on the occasion and conducted a briefing in which they informed the players of Viva's goals and their respective responsibility and professionalism. What followed was a small session in which an exhibiton game was played in order to assess the players. Coach Sreedharan was impressed by young T. Karma on his first day. The focus of the following weeks will be to enhance the players basic endurance and strength. Therefore, the squad will use all the facilities like gym and swimming pool added to special hill traning and cross country. The immediate emphasis is the physical fitness on which the team will work in morning sessions. In the evening, the players will also use the ball.
The team management will be assisted by young ground assistant Sajilesh from Kannur while a new physio is expected to join the team in the coming days.
Apart from this, you will now also find a new section called "Coaching Room". In this section, coach A.M. Sreedharan will write a regular column exclusively for this website. Click on the left to read the first entry!
