Viva Kerala beat Mumbai FC by a solitary goal courtesy K.P. Anish. Read the matchreport.
Viva passed a tough test given by a young Mumbai side with an average age of 19. Mumbai FC have sent a completely different side to the one that Viva recently beat by the same score in the I-League. Tournament organisers are surely unhappy that Mumbai have sent their youth team. This is hardly surprising as Mumbai FC can give their first team players some rest before the second half of the I-League resumes, with matches to be played in quick succession.
Viva Kerala, however, look determined to win this tournament and fielded their best available XI. The Mumbai youth team worked hard and showed good spirit but Viva made their experience count. KP Anish was again the only goalscorer heading into an empty net from a yard out after Amarwant had headed a corner back across the face of goal. The Viva defence and defensive midfield played every minute of the 3 games in 4 days and despite the fatigue were solid throughout this match. This result means that Viva are have qualified for the semi-finals, probably as group winners depending on other results. Mumbai FC cannot qualify and play Mohammedan Sporting in their remaining group match.
Viva: Sharat - Noushad, Amarwant, Bello, Surjith - Sajesh, Patrick, Sakeer, Siraj - Anish (Shahinlal), Shibinlal (Marsook).
