Saleel and Lalu to leave Viva Print E-mail
Friday, 05 June 2009
Youngsters K.V. Lalu and Shabhas Saleel signed contracts with ONGC Mumbai and thus leave Viva Kerala after a two-year stint. Coach Sreedharan also offers his view on their transfer to ONGC, Mumbai.

Saleel and Lalu have informed coach Sreedharan of their decision to seek greener pastures at the Mumbai club. Interestingly, ONGCstill plays in India's 2nd Division league while Viva will feature in the I-League.

One can doubt that the transfer was for sportive reasons only. And Saleel confimed that the Mumbai team provides a much better salary. It is normal that players are for a wage increase after a successful season with Viva Kerala, but especially young players like Saleel and Lalu should have been reasonable in their demands.

Coach Sreedharan comments that "they were free to sign for any other club, but we tried to convince them to sign for Viva. But this is professional football. They would have had better chances to showcase their talent with Viva in the I-League, but they chose otherwise. Whatever my opinion on their decision is, I am not disappointed! We will find two more than equal replacements.

Coach,
As you clearly mentioned, its professional football
and players have higher chances in India to play in
competitive level and make money. I understand that you were
the coach of FC Kochin as well, i do hope Viva kerala
wouldnt have the fate of FCK. I understand it's not in your
control however, i really wish there's more involvement from
ex players/corporates/local community to outline a clear
business plan for Viva Kerala. Presently, its evident in the
club management of their in experience and limitations in
bringing sponsors and effectively managing a club's
progress. I personally appreciate your commitments and
hardwork being done to bring back the club to the premier
league but i am equally concerned about the future. I do
hope Viva wont be relegated again! Also, it's to my surprise
that i noticed there is a regional focus towards Northern
kerala for selecting young players. You may notice that
