No Kerala League for Viva? Players join camp Print E-mail
Friday, 26 September 2008
In a turn of events, Viva Kerala might not feature in the new Kerala State League. The problem is that the Kerala Football Association (KFA) is unable to fix a date for the tournament.
The Asian Football Confederation wants to conduct the new Kerala League in a home and away format. The KFA however feels it is unable to run it in that basis and wants the Kerala League to be a group stage/knockout tournament. The final decision still pending, the start date for the tournament has further been pushed back to November or even December.
As per AFC regulation, a player cannot take part in local league and 2nd Division I-League (which is slated to begin in January 2009) at the same time. Should the Kerala League take place only in late 2008 and would also be running in the beginning of 2009 which would bar Viva's participation as the club has set its main goal on the 2nd Division I-League.

Meanwhile, a few more players have joined the Viva camp. K.R. Sudheesh (SBT), Shibinlal (SAI, Calicut) and Wahid Mohammed Sali (Mumbai FC) have joined the squad and could be signed in the second transfer period in November. Apart from that, veteran A.S. Firoze is set to join Viva on the 2nd October and might also be signed in November. Ghanaian George Tutu's return date has also been set: he will arrive in Kochi on October 10th.
