Kerala Football Association (KFA) will organize the new Professional Kerala State League as per guidelines by the Asian Football Confederation. The formalities have to be finalized, but the tournament is slated to begin at the end of this year.
Originally, the league was planned to be held in a home and away format over a longer period. Due to some technical problems, this season, it will be held as a tournament with group stages while from next year on, it will be on home and away basis.
Eight teams will be divided into two groups, while one group will be playing in Ernakulam and the other in Trivandrum. The participating teams will be Viva Kerala, Central Excise, Malabar United, Cochin Port Trust, Chandini FC, SBT, Titanium XI and Kerala State Electricity Board. Two teams from each group will qualify for the next stage. However, the final dates are yet to be fixed. Viva will then also play in the Federation Cup and the 2nd Division I-League.
