CPL: Viva beats Udaya SC Print E-mail
Sunday, 08 February 2009
In its opening match of the newly formed Cochin Premier League, Viva Kerala today got the better of Udaya Sports Club by beating them two goals to nil.

As reported earlier, Viva had to play without any foreign players in its rank, but nevertheless dominated the proceedings according to reports. Udaya SC did not even test Viva goalkeeper N.M. Anoop one single time in 90 minutes.

The first goal was scored by India U-19 striker C.S. Sabeeth in the 11th minute of the match. The lead was extended by A. Devadasan in the 80th minute. Viva should have won by a much bigger margin, but as in earlier outings, the strikers failed to convert the chances.

Coach Sreedharan considered this to be more of a practice match and hence told his boys to fine-tune their movements and coordination. Viva would face a real test on tuesday when the opponent is Golden Threads FC. The Chathunni-coached side has been reinforced and Viva should be wary of the "threat".

Viva: Anoop - Sajesh, Noushad, Sathish Kumar, Shihab - Siraj, Lalu, Mano (Rahul), Saleel - Sabeeth, Devadasan.
