In an unevenly matched outing, Viva Kerala beat M.A. College, Kothamangalam by 9-0. Viva's new recruits Bello Rasaq and Baba Tunde made their first appearance in the "Neelapadda's" jersey.
And it was defender Bello who scored Viva's first via a free-kick in the 8th minute of the match. Siraj added another one 26 minutes into the first half. The good combinations shown by Viva also payed off three minutes later as Devadasan found the net to make it 3-0. With some minutes left until the lemon-break, striker Baba Tunde scored twice (34th, 36th).
Coach Sreedharan made some changes, but the scoring spree went on as Siraj added another goal to his tally (53rd). The remaining three goals were again scored by Viva's new Nigerian recruits: Rasaq converted a spot-kick in the 87th minute and Baba Tunde added two more in the closing minutes of the match (88th and 90th).
A.M. Sreedharan was satisfied with his boys' performance, but also reminded that it's difficult to judge anything based on today's match. M.A. College was not an equal opponent for Viva and hence any conclusions will be misleading. Nevetheless, he was happy with the combinations shown, but reminded that the team has to improve in some more departments.
The next match will take place on Friday against Cochin Port Trust.
Viva: Anoop - Sajesh, Noushad, Rasaq, Sathish - Siraj, Saleel, Devadasan, Sakeer - Baba Tunde, Sabeeth.
