Chief coach A.M. Sreedharan is very happy with his side's win in Mumbai as it was the first away-win this season. The team still has a long way to go, but an improvement is obvious.
"It was a very hard-fought win, as we struggled in the first half.", says the coach. "Mumbai FC were unbeaten in the previous ten matches, so I think they were a little bit overconfident when they faced us." However, he was still not content with the converting of the many chances. "It is still our problem: we create many chances, but our strikers cannot convert them into goals. However, Anish deservedly got the man-of-the-match award today. Not only did he score a goal, he also worked very hard for the entire 90 minutes."
Sreedharan also singled out young T. Karma for praise as the dynamo from Mysore played effective as usual and was a constant threat on the right wing. Asked why he brought on goalkeeper Shahinlal in the injury time as a striker, the coach replied that "he is tall and powerful. He could have made some use of one of the long balls and pressurized the Mumbai defence."
Regarding the coming high-profile E.K. Nayanar tournament in Kannur, the coach said: "There is a good lineup for this tournament and we want to play well. The tournament comes at a good time as most of the first elven players can recover now and take rest. At the same time, those who do not play regularly will have a chance to gain match practice and recommend themselves for I-League matches."
