Dear Fans,

 

it has been quite some time since my last column and now, I want to give you an update on the current state of Viva Kerala and my personal views.

 

As you all know by now, we reached our primary goal namely qualifiying for the I-League 2009/2010. It was a bumpy road for us as almost all soccer pundits thought it would be impossible to gain promotion with such a young and inexperienced team. But I was always sure that the team is strong enough to qualify. In the beginning of the campaign, it became evident though that most of the players lacked a bit of confidence. But after some outings, they became aware of their capabilities and ultimately won the important matches. However, my young boys will benefit a lot from the experience. 

 

These boys still need more experience and matches in the I-League at a high competetive level will just offer them that. I want to keep the core team which represented us last year (12-13 players). Important players like Shahinlal, Siraj, Sabeeth and Noushad have already signed their contracts. I hope that the other players will follow suit in the next weeks. Other potential and talented players like Fredy, Surjith and Marzook have also been signed. I would like to include some experienced Indian players, but this depends on Viva's sponsorship for the next season. Three dependable foreign players also shall be added as they are likely to make the difference. I am sure that we will have a balanced team.

 

We do not only want to sustain our place in the I-League, a mid-table finish will be our aim. And within three years, we want to be at the top of Indian Football.
