Dear Fans,
after a long time, I will again provide you with my views on our current situation at Viva Kerala.
By now, we have played in the Bhagath Soccer Cup in Ernakulam and reached the semi-final of the Kerala State Club Championship in Perinthalmanna. And so far, these campaigns have been quite successful for us, even though we played against more experienced teams which have many former Kerala State players in their ranks.
Until the 88th minute of the Bhagath Cup final against SBT, we did not concede even one single goal in our matches. In the first match against Golden Threads, we did not perform well as our opponents were playing a hit-and-run game and it was difficult for us to settle down. One of our best matches then followed against Malabar United which we won by 1-0 only, but we could have scored at least four or five goals.
In the final against SBT, my young boys were over-excited because of the big crowd which was present. They have never seen so many spectators at our training ground and their inexperience did them in. There is no excuse, the inexperience led to SBT's goal in the final minutes of the match.
Apart from this, our star-striker C.S. Sabeeth could not be fielded in this game as he suffered a hairline-fracture during our Kerala State Club Championship campaign. It will take at least four to five weeks until he will be fit again.
Let me also tell you, that we definitely need some alternations in our striking department. Otherwise it will be very difficult to qualify for the I-League. With our Sabeeth injured, we only have one natural striker, namely Shibin Lal. He is also young and inexperienced and we cannot put too much pressure on him. Devadasan has joined us, but he is not 100 percent fit: not only has he missed our preparation camp, he is also plagues by a nibbling injury. We cannot compete in the 2nd Division with Sabeeth and Shibin only and some reinforcements are very much needed.
But, this team has so far shaped up very well. It consists of young boys and even though we have played teams which are very much senior to us, we have done very well so far. The only thing is that we have to improve our fighting quality.
Our next assignment will be the semi-final of the Kerala State Club Championship on January 14th. Titanium will be our opponent and it will be very difficult for us as Anoop, Sabeeth, Sajesh, Rahul, Nidhil and Manoharan are still injured.
But please continue to support our young team as your help is very much needed and appreciated!
With best regards,
A.M. Sreedharan
Chief Coach
